Mission Statement
Mission Hiring Hall’s purpose is to meet the immediate and long-term employment needs of San Francisco’s employers and its low- to moderate- income, unemployed and underemployed residents.

History of Mission Hiring Hall
Mission Hiring Hall (MHH) was established in 1971 as part of the Mission Coalition Organization, a grass roots organization formed to address the social and economic conditions in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco. In 1990, at the request of several neighborhood organizations from the South of Market, MHH established the South of Market Employment Center (SOMEC). MHH, which is located in two of the most economically impacted San Francisco neighborhoods, 16th Street in the Mission district and 6th Street in the South of Market area, serves low- to moderate-income San Francisco job seekers, ages 18 and up.

Through its leadership, MHH has successfully forged ongoing working relationships with developers and employers to maintain its current service level at an average of 2,000 San Francisco residents each year. To better serve the diverse populations of the Mission, South of Market and Yerba Buena Center neighborhoods, the MHH staff is multiethnic and multilingual in several languages including Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, and Tagalog.

DEMONSTRATED SUCCESS
Years of experience in job referrals and thorough knowledge of every employment compliance program in San Francisco, including First Source Hiring, San Francisco Redevelopment Agency, Human Rights Commission, Section III Hiring and Seismic Retrofit Employment Consortium makes MHH/SOMEC a vital part of any employer’s good faith effort in achieving its employment program goals.
