ST. REGIS HOTEL SCHEDULED TO OPEN IN SOMA IN NOVEMBER 2005

The St. Regis Hotel at Third and Mission Streets is projected to open in November 2005.  During summer 2005 South of Market Employment Center (SOMEC) is pleased to assist St. Regis with the hiring process for the hotel.  Current Starwood employees should request a transfer to St. Regis at their employer’s human resource department since SOMEC is not able to process those applications.   Those eligible to apply at SOMEC may apply in person Monday through Friday, 9:00 am – 11:00 am and 1:00 am – 3:00 pm.

CONSTRUCTION REFERRAL ORIENTATION CONTINUES ON 2ND & 4TH WEDNESDAYS

MHH continues to conduct orientations for the Construction Referral Program every second and fourth Wednesday of the month from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon for people interested in working in the construction trades.  Orientations will cover how to join the building trades unions and client testimonials and may include presentations from various unions.

Space is limited to the first 15 people to arrive.  Women and people of color are encouraged to attend.  Please bring proof of San Francisco residency and work eligibility documents to the orientation.

Out-of-work union workers do not need to attend the orientation and may come directly to the office to make an appointment to meet with our counselors. More details>

UPWARDLY GLOBAL MOCK INTERVIEWS ON AUGUST 27

Upwardly Global (UpGlo) successfully conducted its fourth Mock Interview Session at SOMEC on May 28, 2005 and is scheduled to run the fifth session on August 27, 2005.  During this Saturday morning session approximately 15 volunteers will role play as prospective employers with about 15 job seekers in individual mock interviews.  UpGlo assists immigrant professionals to pursue employment that relates to their training and experience in their home countries.
